What is a “CHN” and a “CNC”?
A CHN is a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and a CNC is a Certified Nutritional Consultant. Both are professionals trained in health through natural nutrition, whose main focus is to educate others about the benefits and health impact of proper nutrition. Our jobs are to guide and to teach individuals about wellness through food. A CNC may be seen as a “food counselor”. A consultants focus is to work closely with clients to look for areas and build plans or goals that are specific to their individual physical and psychological needs. Our services are meant to be a complement to your current medical care when it comes to your health (and is not meant to be a substitute for it). Rebecca’s Certifications are through the Applied Nutrition Diploma Program and the Nutritional Consulting program at Alive Academy of Natural Health, and is recognized by the Government of Canada, the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants, The Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners, The Canadian Association of Natural Nutritional Professionals, and Canfitpro (Canadian Fitness Professionals), among others.
What does R. Anne. R stand for?
My full name! Which is Rebecca Anne Renfrow. R. Anne. R also resembles the well known acronym “R&R”, rest and relaxation, a happy accident that fits well within my missions when it comes to nutritional health and education.
What is the difference between a Certified Nutritionist and a Certified Nutritional Consultant?
A CHN is a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and a CNC is a Certified Nutritional Consultant. Both are professionals trained in health through natural nutrition, whose main focus is to educate others about the benefits and health impact of proper nutrition. The main difference between the two in my particular case is in the schooling/education. Graduating as a Certified Holistic Nutritionist specializing in Sports & Fitness required a passing grade of 80% or higher in select courses such as Natural Health Fundamentals and Sports & Fitness Nutrition among others, while to graduate as a CNC required additional completion of further courses such as Anatomy & Physiology and Nutritional Counselling among others. The largest difference is in the training specifically in nutritional counselling as well as the ability to register with select governing bodies upon completion of the program.
What should I expect from your programs/sessions?
Program sessions are set up with a “counselling” focus and a client-lead feel. You are in charge of your health and know what your are looking for and how you work best. I am here to help guide and educate you, not to simply tell you what to do. Sessions are structured to leave room for open conversation about goals, feelings, struggles and wants. As well they are crafted to fit in lessons pertaining to goal setting techniques, que management, barrier prevention, behavioral change strategies etc. Expect handouts/take-homes on basic or advance nutritional information at the end of each session as well. Every individuals session will look almost entirely different from the next persons with the same basic focus on nutritional counseling, personalized nutritional education and habit building techniques, as well as goal setting.
Do you do meal plans?
I have a mission here, and that is the age old saying to “teach-a-man-to-fish” and not simply to just give him/her one. Traditional and/or stereotypical meal plans are not currently offered here. Instead the objective is always to provide as many tools and information as possible, in combination with consultation sessions along with easy habit building methods, to set you up for being in charge of your own nutritional health success. Plans for building a meal planning lesson program in the future are in the works.
What if your rates are still just way too expensive for me?
Please never feel like you can not reach out to me privately if you feel you are still unable to afford any of the offered programs. I fully stand by my opinion that access to proper nutritional knowledge should never be beyond reach solely due to finances. I am here to work with you within your means, if we need to wiggle things around to better suit your financial abilities that is certainly an option. I trust most people will not take advantage of this.
Can I do programs/session with you online or does it have to be face to face?
Currently online is the only form being offered, and in-person sessions will continue to remain on hold for the time being unfortunately.
What happens if I decide I don’t like my plan, can I get a different one?
Remember these are not typical plans, you have full reign over your own goals and I am here to help counsel, educate and guide you. At every session we will go over your established goals/plans and assess how you are feeling towards them and tweak/revise/add-to it as necessary. Nothing is concrete and immovable, you are the leader of your own health goals, I am just your guide, your teacher, your listener and friend.
